Solo en Estados Unidos, cada a\u00f1o se diagnostican alrededor de 3500 c\u00e1nceres orofar\u00edngeos asociados con el virus del papiloma humano en mujeres y 16 200 en hombres. Seg\u00fan la OMS, alrededor del 5 % de los c\u00e1nceres son provocados por infecciones del virus del papiloma humano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Algunos microorganismos tienen un profundo impacto en la patog\u00e9nesis del c\u00e1ncer. De hecho, casi el 20 % de los c\u00e1nceres malignos en humanos est\u00e1n relacionados con infecciones microbianas, incluidas bacterias, par\u00e1sitos y virus.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Estudiar los agentes pat\u00f3genos implicados en algunos c\u00e1nceres permitir\u00e1 comprender la enfermedad y buscar tratamientos. Este libro destripa, p\u00e1gina tras p\u00e1gina, el v\u00ednculo que mantienen los microbios y el c\u00e1ncer. Es un adversario con mala uva y dientes afilados, pero hoy estamos m\u00e1s cerca de conseguir la victoria definitiva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ra\u00fal Rivas<\/strong> es doctor en Biolog\u00eda y catedr\u00e1tico de Microbiolog\u00eda en la Universidad de Salamanca, donde imparte asignaturas relacionadas con la microbiolog\u00eda y la biotecnolog\u00eda. Ha sido profesor de los Campus Cient\u00edficos de Verano de la Fundaci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola para la Ciencia y la Tecnolog\u00eda (FECYT) y ha dirigido 46 cursos de formaci\u00f3n permanente y especializada. Ha sido investigador posdoctoral y profesor visitante en universidades de B\u00e9lgica y Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ha publicado m\u00e1s de 200 art\u00edculos cient\u00edficos en las principales revistas y libros internacionales de su especialidad, m\u00e1s de 30 art\u00edculos docentes y m\u00e1s de 180 art\u00edculos de divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica. Imparte charlas y talleres en numerosos eventos destinados a la difusi\u00f3n de la ciencia. Ha recibido diversos premios y menciones entre los que destacan el Premio Antonio Jos\u00e9 Palomares de la Sociedad Espa\u00f1ola de Fijaci\u00f3n de Nitr\u00f3geno y el Primer Premio Nacional de Fotograf\u00eda Cient\u00edfica FOTCIENCIA.
